SFUSD K-5 Public Elementary School

Commodore Sloat Elementary School was Founded in 1865 and is located in San Francisco, California in the West of Twin Peaks / West Portal Neighborhoods. Sloat serves grades K-5 in the San Francisco Unified School District. Sloat is proud to be named a California Distinguished School, one of only six SFUSD schools to receive this honor. Sloat also received an additional honor of being one of only 12 California Distinguished schools to be recognized for having an Exemplary Program in Arts Education. Additionally, Sloat was recently named to the California State Honor Roll.

School Hours:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8:40am to 2:55pm
Wednesday 8:40am-1:40pm

Basic Facts:

16 classrooms: 3 classes each for kindergarten, first, second, and third grades. 2 classes each for fourth and fifth grades

Split classes for fourth and fifth grades: one for math and science, and the other for English and social studies.

Class size:

K through 3rd have 22 students per class, and 4th and 5th have 30 to 33 students per class.

  • California Fertilizer Foundations Garden Grant
  • Green Schoolyard Alliance
  • Whole Kids Foundation Grant
  • SF Foundation Community Initiative Funds
  • PG&E Grant (as part of the California Solar Schools Project): to install a solar panel in the lower play yard
  • SF Environment Carbon Fund: Grant to reduce the asphalt surface area of our play yards, create additional green space, and plant 22 new trees and over 300 native grasses
  • Lowe’s Toolbox for Education: greening Grant
