I’ve been working in the San Francisco Unified School District since 2014. Over the past two years, I worked at Commodore Sloat as a 5th grade teacher, and later as a teachers aide. Previously I worked as a Student Teacher at Sunnyside Elementary and Commodore Sloat Elementary. Over the years, I’ve worked with many children in public schools through community service and outreach programs including working as a Reading Tutor for at-risk youth, a SMART Reading Tutor at Title 1 schools, and Parent Volunteer in the classroom at Commodore Sloat. Prior to teaching, I worked as a corporate Training Manager, Instructor, and Course Developer at Intel Corporation for 12 years and took a hiatus from my career for a few years to focus on family as a stay-at-home mom.
In my classroom, I create a caring and inclusive classroom community where students’ ideas, thoughts, and actions are valued. I believe that every student has unique talents and strengths to share within our classroom community and I work with students to build on their strengths and develop a growth mindset. I believe that cultivating a growth mindset – the belief that student abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work – is one of the most important values I can instill in my students. This puts students in the driving seat of their learning and fosters initiative, independence, and a lifelong love of learning I create opportunities for students to collaborate, share, and learn from each other. To inspire student achievement, I set a high bar for all my students and am deeply passionate about making learning engaging and fun.
I’m proud to be a California native and a product of public schools. I attended Los Feliz Elementary, Rio Vista Middle School, and Hollywood High School in Los Angeles. I graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts in English and completed the CalState TEACH Teacher Credential Program.
Outside of the classroom, I lead an active family life. I’m married to the love of my life, Albert, and we’re the proud parents of three spirited and independent children. Our oldest daughter, Sophia, attends Lowell High School. Our son, Koa, attends Aptos Middle School. And our youngest daughter, Julia, is a student at at Commodore Sloat! I’m an avid book lover that enjoys traveling, exploring new places, outdoor adventures, Yoga, Ted Talks, BBC historical dramas, world music, and cultural exchanges.
