Dear Commodore Sloat Families:

Welcome to Commodore Sloat! On behalf of the Commodore Sloat Parents Club (PCO), we are inviting you to be part of a very important effort: our Annual Cash Appeal Campaign. For parents who are new to our school, this is one of the crucial ways we maintain valuable programs and activities at Commodore Sloat. The money we collect during the Annual Cash Appeal Campaign represents over 35% of the total we will need to raise for this school year, so you can see how important this campaign is to us.

Recently, we were one of six schools in San Francisco to have been named a Distinguished School by the state of California; in addition, we were one of a dozen schools in the state to have also been recognized for our Exemplary Arts Education! Our excellent performance is a testament to our dedicated community of students, teachers, administrators, parents and volunteers. These awards were earned despite the fact that half our community receives free and reduced priced meals and nearly a third are English language learners. Please join us in preserving our longstanding track-record of providing all of our children with an outstanding educational experience in a diverse environment with excellent enrichment programs. The PCO works very hard to support important enrichment opportunities for our children, from Chrome books and tablets in the classroom, to Education Outside in our learning garden, field trips, additional P.E., and the need to increase support staff within the classrooms. This is the reality of public school education and these programs and services would not be possible without the support of our school community. The PCO is a non-profit organization and your donations are fully tax-deductible so please make your donation to the Annual Cash Appeal Campaign today!

What’s our goal for the Cash Appeal Campaign? Our goal this year is to raise $84,000, and to reach that goal we’re asking for $500 for every student. HOWEVER, we know that not everyone is able to contribute at that level; our goal is 100% participation – please give what you can.  And if you have the ability to give more, please do! The money we raise throughout the year will ensure that we can continue programs and maintain supplies such as:

  • Chrome books and carts
  • Additional P.E. for every student
  • Education Outside in our learning garden
  • Visual and Performing Arts
  • Extra staff in the classroom and on the play ground
  • Software licenses and subscriptions for students and teachers
  • Teacher and classroom supplies
  • Multi-cultural assemblies
  • School-wide field trips for all grades including an unforgettable 5th grade overnight trip
  • And most importantly: Being able to say “YES!” when teachers come to the PCO with a special request to benefit the classroom or the school.

So PLEASE get out your checkbook or click on PayPal via our website under the donate tab and give or pledge! Checks should be made payable to “COMMODORE SLOAT SCHOOL FUND”.

You can also check with your company’s HR department to see if they support a company match. This means for every dollar you donate, your company will either match it or donate a percentage. We collected nearly $20,000 in company matches last year.

Let’s aim for 100% participation: We are always shooting for 100% participation during the Annual Cash Appeal Campaign from all the families, whether your donation is $5, $20, $50, $100, $300, $500, $750 or $1000. This strong showing will help us leverage support from other funding sources (funders usually ask what percent of our community members contribute!) and will ensure that our children have a well-rounded and inspiring year.

How much should we give? One of the things that makes our school special is that we have a diverse range of families with different resources that they can offer. Each family should give whatever they can to help support the exemplary education your child receives at Commodore Sloat. If a lump sum of $500 per child is difficult, then pledge $50 per month per child for ten months and pay monthly. (We have several parents who setup automatic monthly deductions from their checking accounts). Even if you can only give a little, we encourage you to participate in some way as doing so demonstrates a shared commitment to our school community. We also appreciate the time and energy you as parents put in to our school – volunteer hours and efforts have a huge impact on our school’s success. Unfortunately, time doesn’t pay for the computers, art, or P.E. teachers, just to name a few of the items funded out of the PCO budget. We need your financial support as well. Yes, we’re asking for both!

Thank you for your crucial support!  Together we can do this!
