My name is David Kenney and I am one of your Fourth Grade teachers here at Commodore Sloat school. I started working in SFUSD at Malcolm X Academy in 2000 where I was at various times: a Computer Teacher, a School Site Substitute, a Fourth grade teacher and a Kindergarten teacher. I moved to Sloat at the beginning of the 2006 school year and have been teaching math and science in C-3 ever since. I have had a variety of professions before teaching full time: various stops on the line in the cooking world, greenhouse and garden center jobs, independent bookstores, publishing and big box bookstores, graphic design and web work, and a short time being an outdoor educator: rock climbing, flat water paddling and ropes course work. I love to ride my bike, play Ultimate Frisbee as well as fantasy games. Reading, cooking, spending time with my family, walking my dog and listening to the Giants on the radio are some of the other ways I fill up the times I am not in school.

I have loved Sloat from first time I came to talk to the Principal. The gardens, lots of open space, and kitchens in every Pod exemplified a great place to practice teaching. Once I started working in the classroom, getting to know the great kids and amazing families, and the excellent staff, I knew this was a special school.
