Physical Education

SFUSD K-5 Public Elementary School

Physical Education is an integral part of learning. When students participate in a variety of physical activities, they also learn to appreciate the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle. PE helps children build confidence, independence, poise, and resilience. Positive social skills – learning how to interact with peers and learning good sportsmanship – has a direct link to improved academic performance.

Commodore Sloat applied for and is receiving Physical Education Support from the Curriculum Instruction, Physical Education Department of SFUSD. Physical Education Program support will provide support at the school site for at least two years. All K-5 students will receive 200 minutes of physical education every 10 school days.

This year, we are lucky to have two PE coaches: Pam Lim, funded by PEEF, and Coach Denise Lujan, funded by our very own PCO. Both coaches are helping the school build and implement a Physical Education program so that Commodore Sloat has a sustainable and robust physical education program.

The program ensures that every child experiences various activities that range from aerobics to team sports. Both coaches take full advantage of Sloat’s huge blacktop leading children in everything from morning warm-ups to running laps to structured play during recess.
