EDUCATION OUTSIDE

With the fall comes our first harvests–which means cooking lessons with school-grown produce! Check out the new Education Outside blogpost to see highlights of what students are up to in the Outdoor Classroom.

Additionally, we could use some help with efforts to increase the sustainability of our school. With some support from parents, programs to promote healthy commuting, energy conservation, etc. could have a real impact on our school community. Please contact anaka@educationoutside.org or find Ms. Ady around school if you're interested!

TOUR VOLUNTEERS

Thank you to Brian & Nevada for heading up the school tour crew and to all of you who have given a tour. The tours are FULL. We need your help. Please share your love of our school! Help prospective families learn about our school — you probably know more than you think! Brian and Nevada will show you the ropes — don’t be shy! Share the love — it’s a quick hour on Tuesday mornings 9-10am, and helps the school. Sign-up: http://goo.gl/1SI1Zl

CHINESE NEW YEAR PARADE 2015

Commodore Sloat will again march in the 2015 Chinese New Year Parade. We have again hired the talented Nagata Dance Studio to choreograph our dance route. It is the year of the lamb and we have some special costumes in mind. This dance class will be offered in January 2015 as a YMCA enrichment. We want to start planning in advance, so we are asking parents/students to express interest now. We only have room for only 28 students, grades 1 through 5. Please contact Angelina Quintana at AQuintana@ymcasf.org, if you or your child is interested in participating in the Parade, or contact Vicky Lee, the YMCA coordinator, directly right after school in the Auditorium or by calling 415.850.2228. Here is link to last year’s dance parade horse dance: http://youtu.be/fv4aA0LreBg Thanks from the Commodore CNY Parade Committee!

“CARNAVAL” – COMMODORE SLOAT AUCTION

  • March 7, 2015 6 -10pm <—– save the date!

Now is time to start thinking: “Auction!” Due to last year’s success soliciting donations from local businesses and feedback from the auction co-chairs and community, we are adding an online auction component to the event, allowing more friends, family, and neighbors to support Sloat. Emily Ransom has already printed and mailed letters to donors who generously contributed during last year’s general campaign (thanks Emily!), but we are always looking for more donations from outside the parent/guardian community. We’re looking for volunteers to help manage tangible gift donations, intangible donation intake, check out manager, fiscal manager, and a floor manager to oversee set up.

How can you help? Solicit donations from businesses you frequent. For sample letters, donation forms and more, please visit our Auction page on sloatparents.org.

LOST AND FOUND

All items not picked up from the Lost and Found rack located next to the front lobby will be donated to the Bayview Mission at the end of each month. Please take a look before your items are gone!
