SLOAT STRIDE – ARE YOU READY for SLOAT STRIDE ON OCTOBER 3RD?? It’s one of our school’s biggest events! Sloat Stride is a super fun walk/jog-a-thon with Coach Denise Lujan as our EMCEE and official trainer. Sloat Stride promotes exercise while raising money to fund our important programs like PE, music, poetry, and gardening. By getting sponsors & running laps, students are setting goals and personally making a difference at their school.

Look for a pledge form, information & an envelope to collect and turn in your pledges in your Wednesday Envelope. Call or email your friends/family to sponsor your student, or better yet, have your student call to ask directly. We have great prizes again this year, like our limited-edition Sloat Stride t-shirts. Start reaching out to people you know and ask them to support our students and school. Completed pledge sheets are due on the day of the event: Friday, Oct 3. Back by popular demand, you can have friends and family fill out pledge sheets online at (or enter their pledges yourself). If you have questions, please contact Karen Gallagher at

To get our kids amped and ready to run, Coach Denise Lujan holds a morning run on Wednesdays for practice laps in the lower yard before school!

Please join us!

CALLING ALL SLOAT STRIDE VOLUNTEERS! It’s not only fun for the kids – who get to run around, get sprayed with water when they’re hot, and get their arms and legs marked up with every lap they complete – it’s also a blast for the parents who volunteer to help! If you would like to help out, please use the online sign-up form. We also need help entering donations after the event. Let us know if you can help!

THE BOOK FAIR in the Library

The Book Fair will be open during Back-to-School night and until the end of this week.

Your child has compiled a book “Wish List” and a register printout showing the cost of the books on their wish list. If you choose to buy the books on your child’s wish list (or any other books of your choosing), you can send a check or cash with your child back to school (or purchase at Back to School night).

At the Book Fair you can also help your child’s classroom by buying books from their teacher’s Classroom Wish List. Simply select one or more Book Wish List Donation Cards from the Wish List Display in the Library. The titles are hand picked by each teacher and the books are set aside for you to purchase.

Remember — 50% of all purchases are given back to benefit the Sloat library!

Where Does the Money Go?

The impact of donating your time is often easy to see: volunteers in the classroom, books shelved in the library, copies made for classroom work, and adult recess monitors. The impact of your monetary donation may not seem as obvious, this pie chart gives a brief snapshot of where the money raised by parents through various fundraisers during the year is spent to improve your child’s experience at Sloat.

Also, our downloadable document “Fundraising and Volunteer Opportunities at A Glance” provides an overview of the opportunities during the year to participate, either financially or through volunteering — or both. Pick and choose what works for you and your family. Thanks for your support!

SLOAT GEAR – Show your school pride!

Sloat Gear will be on sale starting this week. Look for the large blue cabinet at Back to School Night and to buy Anchor logo gear for your student or yourself. The cart will also be on the yard before and after school on Thursday and Friday this week.

Zip hoody sweatshirts = $30, t-shirts = $15, water bottles = $6, car magnets = $5, totes = $10. 100% profits go to the general fund.
